History and Identity

Boromarajonani Nursing College Uttaradit is a tertiary institution that produces professional nurses, under the Jurisdiction of Praboromarajchanok Institute, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health. It was founded in 1972 as a practical nursing and midwifery school under Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health, and commenced providing a certificate program in practical nursing and midwifery on April 22, 1974.

In 1980, the school, in accordance with Ministry of Public Health’s workforce policy adjustment to produce professional nurses, offered a two-year diploma program in nursing and midwifery (beginning), and was renamed Uttaradit Nursing College, affiliated with Nursing College Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health. Later on, in 1983, the two-year diploma program transitioned into a four-year program in nursing and midwifery.

In 1985, the college offered a two-year diploma program in nursing ad midwifery to produce technical nurses in response to critical nurse shortage (the program was ended in 1996).

In 1986, the four-year program in nursing ad midwifery made a transition to a community-based program.

In 1987, a two-year continuing diploma program in nursing and midwifery for technical nurses to become professional nurses (the program was discontinued between 1989 and 1991, was resumed in 1992, and was ended in 2006).

In 1994, the college, on account of an organizational restructuring, was transferred to be under Public Health Workforce Development Institute and was renamed as “Boromarajonani Nursing College Uttaradit” by Princess Mother Srinagarindra on 30 March 1994. In 1996, Public Health Workforce Development Institute was given a new name by King Bhumibol and became “Praboromarajchanok Institute”.

In 1997, the college established a collaborative undergraduate program in nursing with Naresuan University until 2003.

In 2004, the college became an affiliated institute of Naresuan University and offered a Bachelor Degree in Nursing (four-year and two-year continuing programs), with the curriculum developed by Praboromarajchanok Institute, Ministry of Public Health, and the degree awarded by Naresuan University.

In 2005, the following programs were offered.

  1. Bachelor of Nursing (a collaborative program with Naresuan University)
  2. Bachelor of Nursing under Praboromarajchanok Institute
  3. Bachelor of Nursing (2-year continuing program)
  4. Diploma of Emergency Medical Operation

In 2006, the following programs were offered.

  1. Bachelor of Nursing (a collaborative program with Naresuan University)
  2. Bachelor of Nursing under Praboromarajchanok Institute
  3. Bachelor of Nursing (for public health officers)
  4. Diploma of Emergency Medical Operation

In 2007, the following programs were offered.

  1. Bachelor of Nursing
  2. Bachelor of Nursing (for public health officers)
  3. Diploma of Emergency Medical Operation

In 2008, the following programs were offered.

  1. Bachelor of Nursing under Praboromarajchanok Institute
  2. Bachelor of Nursing (for public health officers)

In 2009, the following programs were offered.

  1. Bachelor of Nursing under Praboromarajchanok Institute
  2. Bachelor of Nursing (for public health officers)

In 2010 - present, the following program are on offer.
